Manics Accuse Radiohead of 'Ruining Music'

Radiohead perceived as selling out industry for PR stunt by peers.

Welsh rockers Manic Street Preachers have slammed Radiohead for ruining the music industry.

Radiohead stunned the record business last month by releasing In Rainbows as a digital download and allowing customers to choose their own price - but bassist Nicky Wire insists the move further damaged the current fragile state of the industry.

He says, "Fair play to Radiohead for doing something different. It's certainly great for publicity but I think it kind of demeans music.

Another thing getting horribly predictable is Radiohead's daily agitprop...

Radiohead have spoken out against the music industry, calling its current state "horribly predictable".

Speaking about the revolutionary way their new album 'In Rainbows' was made available, bassist Colin Greenwood said that band wanted to shake things up.

Ateaseweb printed samples of the band's interview with the Columbia Spectator, during which Greenwood said: "I hope we put some excitement back into music; It's all becoming horribly predictable."

Cliff Richard pulls a Radiohead

Owen Gibson, Guardian Unlimited - The next artist to follow Radiohead's lead in attempting to shake up music industry pricing models is not an up-and-coming rapper or a leftfield rock band, but an evergreen singer about to release his 78th album.

Cliff Richard, who next year celebrates 50 years since the release of his debut single, Move It, has promised his loyal army of fans that the more of them buy his new album, the less it will cost.

For the next two weeks a website, www.lovecliffrichard.com, will collect download pre-orders for his new compilation, Love, the Album.
